Career Break

I was working in Sweden / Norway / Finland for an energy company. Commuting from the Stansted to Stockholm was initially a good fun, apart from the very early start on Monday. Business Class SAS flights straight to Arlanda, a marvellous illusion  feeling quite important. A year in though and SAS stopped flying from Stansted. Ryan Air to some god-forsaken airport an hour and a half from Stockholm was much less glamourous, and a hairy taxi ride to the city when snow and ice were thick on the ground.

My first daughter was 18 months old and my second was in the oven. With a redundancy on offer as the business was winding up a career break seemed like a plan.

If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it properly. So we rented-out our house for a year and set of on our round-the-world travels with a 2 year old and a new-born in tow…..
